Hatem Bridge Update: Form and Brochure

Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA)

Thank you for your continued interest in the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) toll facilities, including the Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge (US 40). The MDTA would like to provide you with an update regarding the E-ZPass Hatem Bridge Plans that will replace AVI decals, which will no longer be accepted effective September 30, 2012.

The MDTA plans to provide extensive information to our customers regarding these plans. The E-ZPass Hatem Bridge Plan includes two options:

  • Hatem Bridge Plan Choice A is a Hatem Bridge Only Plan for customers who currently only use the AVI Decal and do not want to use E-ZPass at other Maryland toll facilities.

  • Hatem Bridge Plan Choice B is for new and current E-ZPass Maryland customers who want to open a new account with the Hatem Bridge Plan Choice B or add the Hatem Bridge Plan Choice B to their existing accounts, while having the benefit of using their E-ZPass at any facility that accepts E-ZPass.

These plans will be available for purchase on February 1, 2012, in E-ZPass Stop-in Centers and by mail and online starting February 13, 2012, at ezpassmd.com. Both E-ZPass Hatem Bridge plans are $10 per year for unlimited trips for two-axle vehicles – the same as the AVI decal currently provides. The plan cost will increase to $20 per year effective July 1, 2013. Under the new E-ZPass program, instead of applying a decal to the outside of the vehicle, the vehicle owner must attach an E-ZPass transponder to the inside of the vehicle’s windshield.

Customers may visit mdta.maryland.gov to download an application or sign up for monthly email updates. For customer convenience, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Highway (I-95) E-ZPass Stop-in Center in Perryville will have extended hours February 1 through September 2012. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Plans also may be purchased at any Maryland E-ZPass Stop-in Center. Due to expected high customer volumes and very limited parking at the Hatem Stop-in Center, the MDTA recommends that customers use the JFK location and take advantage of the extended hours.

To provide additional opportunities for Hatem Bridge customers to sign-up for E-ZPass, MDTA staff will attend local events and visit businesses and large employers throughout Cecil and Harford counties. The MDTA will hold community open houses from 5 - 7 p.m. on February 15 at the Havre de Grace Community Center (snow date February 22) and on February 21 at Perryville High School (snow date February 23) to offer customers the opportunity to learn about and enroll in Hatem Bridge E-ZPass plans. Other outreach efforts include a brochure (enclosed); email marketing, newspaper advertisements and inserts and partnerships with local print and radio media outlets.

Senator Jacobs...
  • Fights to make Maryland affordable for working families.
  • Focuses on bringing jobs to our community.
  • Works hard to keep Harford and Cecil safe by creating tough gang laws.
  • Protects our families- especially children- from child predators by working to create tougher laws.

We need Nancy’s experience...

  • To help get our state budget under control.
